This week, the review department of Softpedia Games is delivering long-form evaluations for: Pro Basketball Management 2015, The Old City Leviathan and Shadows Heretic Kingdoms.

There are also video game-related editorials which talk about cynicism and the way it should be used by video game lovers, and the impact winter updates have on popular titles.

Our Game of the Year 2014 series shows which were the best experiences of the past year in a variety of categories.

As always, we also have a number of Gamer Diaries that talk about our experiences with titles like Crusader Kings II – Way of Life, which introduces some very cool role-playing game mechanics, Company of Heroes 2 – Ardennes Assault, and others.

The Weekend Reading piece is concerned with Grand Theft Auto V, which was re-launched on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, and the way modern games need to offer a simple mechanics for gamers to experience the cool moments they have to offer.

The highlights of the week

On Monday, more footage linked to the Xbox One Preview program version of the Halo 5: Guardians beta was launched, showing fans the game in action, and the development team at 343 Industries talked about the information that it had already gathered in order to improve the title.

A late February launch date for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was also suggested by the developers and a leak associated with Street Fighter V talked about the fighting title’s weather effects and about its cast of characters.

On Tuesday, a major new content update was launched for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which introduced the Spartan Ops mode and a number of tweaks, and Bungie talked about the design decisions made for Destiny.

Meanwhile, Rockstar talked about the Heists that are coming to GTA V Online and the kind of experience they are offering, and Valve launched a new holiday-themed mode for Team Fortress 2.

On Wednesday, The Creative Assembly talked about army management mechanics in Total War: Attila and a new day arrived with more Steam price cuts, and there was also time to talk about some of the legendary fights in Dragon Ball Xenoverse.

On Thursday and Friday, we took some time off to spend with loved ones and to play a little more.

Finally on Saturday, Halo: The Master Chief Collection got a new Flaming Skull update, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare received a new One Shot game mode, and the PSN came back online after a big outage.
