The lore is strong but is told through Grimoire cards

It's been more than three months since Bungie released Destiny, the online first-person shooter game that should have changed the history of the genre, and everyone agrees that the weakest point is its story.

Even though developers have employed the services of Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, the game still feels empty. Destiny has a lot of potential that Bungie could have taken advantage of, but in this state the game isn't fun for those looking for a story-based online first-person shooter multiplayer game.

In a long post on reddit, one of the Bungie's former employees offers us some inside information on how Destiny became what players experience today, as well as his thoughts on what's to come.

One of the most interesting pieces of information provided by Bungie's ex-employee is how the game was scraped at least 5 or 6 times before the final iteration was released back in September.

Moreover, some of the features that players complain they're missing in Destiny, like player customization and story, were present in previous versions of the game.

However, Bungie's last version of the game is very weak on the story and still misses some features related to mechanics and customization.

The Destiny that we play today was developed in just 1 year

To make things even worse, the lore, while strong, is delivered through Grimoire cards, which many players don't even bother to read. That's another thing that doesn't come as something Bungie would want to be proud of.

Apparently, “Destiny which was released was developed over the course of a year. Since there are near 1000 employees and contractors at Bungie, it's certainly not inconceivable to release a quality title in that timeframe.”

While possible, the fact that the studio lost more than 5 years with the development of the game, just to scrap almost everything from the previous versions and release the last iteration in an unfinished state story-wise doesn't sound too good.

With a budget of hundreds of millions of dollars, Destiny should have been “THE GAME.” The good news is Bungie is completely aware that this game isn't what players expected for more than 5 years.

It remains to be seen how the studio will tackle these issues in the next couple of months, especially that Bungie plans to launch Destiny 2 at some point too.

You can find below the full story, as told by Bungie's ex-employee. Let us know in the comments section what you feel Bungie should add to Destiny first in order to make it more appealing story-wise.
