The development team at 343 Industries is announcing that all gamers who are playing Halo: The Master Chief Collection at the moment and are engaged in the first season of the official championship are now able to enjoy a new Flaming Skull update which introduces Oddball.

The official announcement explains, “Oddball has been officially added to the Halo Championship Series game type rotation for Lockdown and Warlord, and will see play immediately in Online Cup #3 by ESL this Sunday as well as the UGC Diamond LAN tournament on January 2-4.”

343 Indutries says that Halo: The Master Chief Collection players will notice that the settings are similar to the default ones and offers a full rundown on the official site.

For the Flaming Skull update, the studio is also introducing a range of other tweaks that are all based on the feedback offered by the community, with effects linked to other game types and a range of maps.

All the modifications are set to be integrated into the Halo Championship Playlist, but the company is also offering a simple way to download them right now.

They add, “Simply add ‘Official HCS’ to your Xbox One friends list. Shortly after, you should see this gamertag appear on your roster within Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Just press A on the gamertag, and head over to file share. The way you'll know you've got the right maps and gametypes, just check the Summary text for, ‘Flaming Skull Update: 12.26.2014’.”

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Championship will continue to be updated in the coming weeks, so gamers should continue to offer feedback as 343 Industries collects more data.

All gamers are getting free content as compensation

Halo: The Master Chief Collection had a slew of problems when it was first launched in November and since then 343 Industries has been delivering a range of updates designed to fix issues with matchmaking and to make sure that gamers never have to wait too long before getting into a game.

In late December, the leadership of the studio also announced that it was thanking gamers who played the title despite its poor state by giving them access to one free month of Xbox Live Gold and by making sure they got access to an exclusive in-game avatar and name plate.

343 Industries and Microsoft have also added the full Spartan Ops cooperative mode from Halo 4 to the Xbox One experience in a recent update and they are also promising that more maps from Halo 2 will be added, remade to suit the experience in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
