Sony's president worldwide, Phil Harrison has officially announced the exact range of playable PS2 games for the PS3 system. No more, not less than 1000 PS2 playable titles will be available on March 23 when the elusive PS3 launches in the PAL territories (Europe, Africa and Australia). You may recall some rumors about the PS3 not having very good backwards compatibility concerning older titles but as Phil Harrison assures us, all that is history: "The situation is changing everyday, but on March 23, we expect the list to include over 1000 PS2 titles."

These are Harrison's exact words in his interview on Sony's semi-official blog, ThreeSpeech. Now, tell me this: was it really that unclear that we were talking about 1000 PS2 games playable for the PS3 console? I mean, out of the thousands of games out there, you'd think that at least one third of those would work on the new machine Sony is so desperately trying to pull up. All that fuss, all those rumors and for what? It's true that even one title can make a difference (like Halo 3 with Microsoft's Xbox 360), but it isn't the case for Sony. What, you're having doubts whether you'll be able to play Guitar Hero on it? Don't worry; I'm sure the matter is being taken care of as we speak. Heck, they're even saying it will be on Nintendo.

So then, it's official: 1000 PS2 titles, playable on the PS3 platform. What are they going to throw at Harrison this time? The fact that there are only 1000 when there could have been more? Give it a rest people...
