'...the 'wit' who wrote the eBay copy originally joked,' but Bungie waited for us to digest it a little

Even though Bungie is currently auctioning off a cameo voice over in Halo 3 at eBay, which they said it would be "the last in the series," a very strange and intriguing statement was heard on their behalf: "Voiceover will be recorded at Blindlight Studios in Hollywood, CA before May 15, 2007 or this package will have to redeemed for Halo 4. Winner is responsible for transportation and accommodations to and from Hollywood, CA."

So, what are we to understand except that Bungie is in the works for the fourth title in the series? And when exactly are they planning to release it if Halo 3, the highly-anticipated first-person shooter video game under development by Bungie Studios for the Xbox 360, isn't due until this spring? As one of the most anticipated videogames in history, the marketing campaign for Halo 3 has been extensive and is planned to be epic in scope.

StrategyInformer have also provided with an update on Bungie's statement: "The cameo is for Halo 3, and the timeframe is tight, although the "wit" who wrote the eBay copy originally joked that if you don't make the session in time, you'd have to end up in Halo 4. Note that was NOT an announcement, but rather a sad clunker of a gag." So it's a joke huh? Well why didn't they say that in the first place? They know how many interpretations a statement like that can have, but they clearly wanted to let tabloids digest it for a little and then come up with a "rephrasing."

Much of the advertising to date has focused on appealing to the general public, rather than just hardcore fans of the game, so the answer for such a radical statement that totally contradicts their previous ones clearly stands in Bungie's intentions of being in the center of attention.
