Leading United States mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced on Monday new investments in its nationwide 3G network, with the expansion of the coverage to a new area in Fairfield County, Connecticut. According to the company, the new expansion included the deployment and activation of a new cell site in the area, which is meant to enhance the 3G coverage and connectivity along Park Avenue and Route 59 on the Bridgeport/Fairfield town line, while also delivering better services to its customers in the surrounding areas.

Verizon Wireless also noted that the new expansion was meant to offer it the possibility to keep pace with increasing demand for wireless voice, 3G multimedia and Internet access. Verizon customers in Bridgeport using a notebook computer or a smartphone can now enjoy downloading of applications on its network, as well as Internet browsing, video streaming, email access with downloading of attachments, downloading of 3G games or of favorite music, as well as fast file sharing.

“Verizon Wireless’ 3G network coverage across New England is unparalleled,” said Director for Network System Performance for Verizon Wireless, Richard Enright. “We’ve invested billions of dollars into New England believing that even the most sophisticated cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on. Our continued aggressive network investments provide customers with a 3G network advantage at home and on vacation.”

According to the mobile phone carrier, its customers can enjoy the possibility to access a series of services such as Mobile Broadband and V CAST on the largest 3G network in the United States. The Mobile Broadband service from Verizon Wireless brings Internet to any notebook computer or smartphone at speeds of around 600 kilobits per second on the downlink and 500-800 kbps on the uplink. As for V CAST: Video and Music and V Cast Music with Rhapsody, they provide users with access to music, games and videos, while also enabling them to download and enjoy the content directly on their handsets or computers.
