It is rumored that HP is going to release an updated version of Quanta's O2's XDA Atom compact wireless PDA phone.

Chinese-language newspaper The Commercial Times suggests that HP's version of the Atom will run on Windows Mobile 5.0 and will include a quad-band GSM/GPRS radio with support for the EDGE higher-speed data-transmission specification.

The same newspaper claims that HP and Quanta will also develop another 3G device. There are no details about the 2.5G version of the device, but here are some of the Atom's technical specifications: 416MHz Intel XScale PXA272 processor backed with 128MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM, a 2.7 inch, 240 x 320, 262k color display. In addition, the Atom supports 802.11b Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 1.2 technology.

The new HP device from Quanta is expected to hit the market in 1Q of 2006.
