Computer maker Dell announced a few days ago that it is set to make the Android 2.2 Froyo software update available for its Dell Streak tablet PC, and the company has just unveiled some more info on the matter, including the fact that it would soon start to sell the unlocked device with Froyo on board right from the start.

On Monday, November 15th, the company started to push out an OTA update for its unlocked Dell Streak devices out there, and announced that it expected for the update process to be completed in a matter of weeks.

However, it also offered other info on the matter, including the fact that it plans on making the OS update available for Best Buy devices in stores in December, followed by the availability of Streak units running under Froyo from the start.

“Best Buy devices currently in stores will be eligible for the Froyo update in December 2010. Additionally, within the next few weeks, an unlocked version of the Streak with Froyo pre-installed will be available on www.dell.com in the U.S,” the company announced.

On Monday, November 15th, the company started to push out an OTA update for its unlocked Dell Streak devices out there, and announced that it expected for the update process to be completed in a matter of weeks.

“These units will be upgraded first because they do not have to go through the carrier approval process. Unlocked units are generally popular outside the United States and can be identified by the fact they are able to be used with a SIM card from any carrier network,” the company announced at the time.

Users will be notified on the availability of the software solution, but they can also manually check to see whether the solution was made available for download for them too.

However, it should be noted that the availability of the update will differ by region, as well as based on the versions of Donut and Éclair present on the device at the moment.

Carrier specific devices will receive the update in December, as it all depends on the wireless operators.

“Starting later in December, users on devices locked to a specific carrier (i.e. you can only use your carrier’s SIM in the device) will start seeing updates as we work with our carrier partners for technical approval,” Dell announced.
