Computer maker Dell has just announced officially that it plans on updating all of its Dell Streak units on the UK market to the new Android 2.2 Froyo operating system before the end of November, and even came up with some more info on what the new OS is all about.

Released on the market with Google's Android 1.6 OS on board, Dell Streak received an Android 2.1 OS upgrade not too long ago, but only some of the slate's users installed it. Due to various issues, the update was pulled, and Dell promised Android 2.2 instead.

The company announced that, among the enhancements that should be brought with the new OS, users would see the new Stage UI being delivered to their devices, along with a series of other improvements as well.

Dell Streak will begin a roll out of the 2.2 update OTA before the end of Nov,” Dell announced officially on its UK Facebook page.

“This is happening over a period of time and staggered by region, starting in the UK. You will receive notification of the update directly on your Streak. If you don’t see it before the end of Nov, please be patient as your build may be happening at a later stage.”

The new Stage UI solution is expected to replace the user interface currently available on the Dell Streak, and can be seen in the video below, which shows Dell Streak running under Android 2.2 Froyo with Stage UI on top of it.

At the same time, Dell Streak users should receive a series of other features too with Android 2.2 on their devices, including Adobe's Flash Player 10.1, as well as Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities. The company posted on its website a full list of enhancements, new features, changes and improvements the new Android 2.2 Froyo OS is bringing to Dell Streak.

While the upgrade was announced on Dell UK's Facebook page, the documentation available on the company's website seems to be aimed at all Streak users out there. Read more about it here.

At the same time, wee should note that Dell announced that it would offer a backup & restore app to the slate's users, so that they would be able to preserve all of the data on their devices after the upgrade.

According to Dell, the roll-out should be completed within two weeks, but there might be some users who will receive it at a later date.
