Wireless carrier T-Mobile has just committed to deliver a new software update to its users, in the form of a Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade for the owners of a Touch Pro2 and Dash 3G. The handsets have been already rumored to be on their way to receive the update, yet up until now nothing was known on when that might happen.

According to TmoNews, T-Mobile officially announced that January 20 was the date when Touch Pro2 and Dash 3G would be updated: “On January 20, the Windows Mobile 6.5 software upgrade will be available for customers with the T-Mobile Touch Pro2 and the Dash 3G. Customers can obtain the update on T-Mobile.com at www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade.”

As many of you might already know, Verizon Wireless is another US carrier which recently delivered Windows Mobile 6.5 updates for two HTC handsets, the Touch Pro2 and Ozone. Moreover, it was only a few days ago when we learned that a shipping WM 6.5 ROM for T-Mobile's Touch Pro2 leaked into the wild, so the official update was expected to be announced shortly.

As soon as the update arrives on Touch Pro2 and the Dash 3G, T-Mobile will have some pretty appealing Windows Mobile 6.5-powered handsets in its offering. Last week, the company revealed that it was the exclusive distributor in the US of HTC's high-end HD2 handset and that it would bring older phones up to speed with that software update.

One thing that remains to be seen, at least when it comes to the Touch Pro2, is if the update also delivers the HTC Sense solution to T-Mobile's users. The leaked ROM included it, and the same applies to the official update provided by Verizon to its users, so it should be in T-Mobile's official solution too. Additional details on this should emerge as January 20 nears, and you can also take a look at the T-Mobile upgrade page for more info.
