Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system has just arrived for a wider range of users out there, via an official update for the Touch Pro2 and Ozone handsets that are now available for purchase in the US via Verizon Wireless. Some of you might have known already that the update is on its way to these phones, and now all is official and available for download for those who would like to try out WM 6.5 on their older handsets.

The new solutions are available for download from the PCD’s web site. The HTC Ozone was the first of them to receive it, and it seems that this is the same ROM as the one that leaked only a few days ago into the wild, with HTC Touch Pro2 following suit soon afterwards. From now on, those Verizon Wireless customers who purchased these Windows Mobile 6.1-based devices can enjoy the same functionality on their phones as those who own an HTC Imagio.

A great deal of other enhancements are also expected to arrive along with the new ROMs, such as support for Global edition of VZ Navigator, and some TouchFLO 3D Enhancements. Moreover, the Touch Pro2, which seems to be out of stock at Verizon almost at all times, will also enjoy the HTC Sense 2.1 solution that was spotted not too long ago in a leaked ROM for T-Mobile's version of the device.

“Please note before upgrading device, all customization and downloaded applications will be lost,” is what the PDC site notes both when it comes to Ozone and for the Touch Pro2. Those interested in performing the update should create a backup of the handset (either on a computer, into the cloud or on a memory card) before making the move, so as to make sure that no important files on the device are lost in the process.

The WM 6.5 update for Ozone is available here. The WM 6.5 update for Touch Pro2 can be downloaded from here.
