The Canadian carrier has just added Samsung Galaxy Apollo smartphone to its portfolio, as it was rumored for a while now. The Android device targets those that are looking for a Galaxy S series smartphone, but don't have the money for it.

Samsung Galaxy Apollo is the sixth Android device sold by Telus, and is one of the affordable smartphones that consumers can get from the Canadian carrier.

The device was also launched on Orange UK and T-Mobile UK, but is also offered in Netherlands into a special edition gift box called Ajax Mobile.

Samsung Galaxy Apollo is powered by a 667 MHz processor and runs Android 2.1 (Eclair) platform.

Even though the standard model is upgradable to Android 2.2, there's no telling if Telus will make the software update available for its subscribers anytime soon.

Other key features of the device include: 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen (240 x 400 pixels resolution), TouchWiz 3.0, Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, Proximity sensor for auto turn-off, Multi-touch input method, 3.5 mm audio jack, Digital compass.

The device sports an average 3.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, as well as video recording capabilities (QVGA@15fps).

It also comes with HSDPA, 3.6 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP support, GPS with A-GPS support, Document editor, 512MB ROM, 256MB RAM, and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB card included).

The phone is features a 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery with an official standby time of up to 620 h (up to 480 h for 3G) and up to 15 h 30 min (up to 7 h 15 min for 3G) talk time.

Telus is offering the Samsung Galaxy Apollo for as low as $49.99 CAD with a 3-year contract, but those that want to get the device without any plan must pay $249.99 CAD.

Other Telus offerings for the device include: $149.99 CAD with a 2-year contract and $199.99 CAD with 1-year contract.
