Australian mobile phone carrier Telstra is expected to add some very appealing new Android-based devices to its offering in the not too far future, and new info on matter emerged, pointed at about half-a-dozen handsets and tablet PCs headed for the carrier before the second quarter of the year is over.

Among these new Android devices, we can count two coming straight from Motorola, namely the Motorola ATRIX and the Motorola XOOM.

The former, a dual-core handset which was already launched on shelves in other markets around the world, is expected to become available on Telstra's network in mid-May.

The latter, Motorola's very first tablet PC and also the first Android 3.0 Honeycomb-based device on the market, should be released in late May, info the guys over at Ausdroid received shows.

They also note that the XOOM would be a direct competitor for Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1v, which is set to make an appearance in Australia on the airwaves of Vodafone before the end of April.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia PLAY would also arrive at the wireless carrier in May, bringing the PlayStation experience to Australian users who are also fond of Android.

Before that, however, the handset vendor would launch another new Android phone on the local market, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, which should drop any day now, it seems.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace was also mentioned in regard to Telstra's future Android plans, expected to arrive on shelves in mid-April, most probably being the first new handset the carrier would launch with Google's platform on board.

No other Android-based device was mentioned as being on its way to the wireless carrier, but, based on the previous rumors, we should expect for more of them to arrive, including phones like the HTC Pyramid (aka Sensation) or the HTC Desire S.

However, nothing was confirmed on the aforementioned handsets either, and we'll have to wait for formal announcements on them to be made before knowing for sure what would Telstra have in store for its customers.
