14 DAY TRIAL // It’s been a whirlwind romance, but the media that it generated eventually killed it, insiders claim. After 2 months of dating, actor Jake Gyllenhaal broke up from singer Taylor Swift right before New Year’s Eve, and each rang in 2011 on their own.
Taylor and Jake first started dating in October and spent Thanksgiving together. Despite rumors that the age difference may prove to be too much for them (she’s 20, he’s 29), insiders insisted they were determined to make it work
Then, right before New Year’s, Jake decided that he couldn’t deal with that much media anymore, and that he wanted his life back again, insiders reveal for Us Magazine. So he broke up with her.
Reports in the media claim that Taylor is very much brokenhearted, which could very well mean she’s penning a brand new song as we speak. Expect it to become a hit as well.
“Jake reached out to her and started all of this, but now he’s not acting as interested,” a spy says for the aforementioned publication. It wasn’t just the media attention that killed the romance, either, because the age gap also played a part.
“He said he wasn’t feeling it anymore and was uncomfortable with all the attention they got. He also said he could feel the age difference. Taylor is really upset. We told her not to move so fast with this but she didn’t listen,” the same spy reveals.
A friend of Jake’s confirms the split, but denies it had anything to do Taylor’s age. The reason behind the split was the lack of privacy – and fans know that Jake is a really private guy who doesn’t like to have his entire life play out in the tabloids.
“Jake cares about her, but [the publicity] was a lot for him. He wants to keep his private life private, and that’s hard to do dating Taylor,” says the second spy.
Since Taylor is known to draw on her personal (love) experiences for inspiration for her music, word has it she’s already working on a new song about how Jake broke her heart.
