During the past few days, Samsung announced the launch of its Galaxy S mobile phone on all four major wireless carriers in the United States, as well as the upcoming availability of such devices on US Cellular and on Cellular South. On Tuesday, the company put all these devices together and announced their launch during an event in New York City, where it also unveiled additional plans regarding these devices, including the fact that they would all taste the Android 2.2 Froyo update in the near future (all of them come with Android 2.1 on board).

In case there are some who might have missed our previous posts on the US-bound Galaxy S handsets, we should mention that AT&T should soon launch the handset under the name of Captivate, that T-Mobile would receive it as Vibrant, and that Verizon should make it available for its users as the Fascinate. Sprint would also get its share of Galaxy S, in the form of Epic 4G, a side sliding mobile phone that packs WiMAX connectivity inside, in addition to Google's Android operating system, just as HTC EVO 4G does.

“This is a groundbreaking opportunity for Samsung to bring the Galaxy S portfolio to multiple carriers this year,” said Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Mobile. “The best-in-class feature set found on the Galaxy S will truly change the way consumers engage with their device. The brilliant screen and powerful processor will enhance the way they interact with their social networks and keep them entertained with rich content and fast-paced games.”

Some of the main features and specs of these devices include the fact that they come with 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, or that they are powered by Samsung 1GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8 CPUs, which reportedly can offer more performance than the highly popular Snapdragon. Other features include six-axis motion sensing, 720p video capture capabilities, enhanced social networking capabilities, Samsung’s Social Hub, Samsung’s All Share application (connecting devices through DLNA - Digital Living Network Alliance- technology), or support for Google's mobile services, including the Android Market.

Other features of the Galaxy S handsets include: - Daily Briefing: Offers instant access to weather, news, stocks, and schedules. - Write and Go Application: Jot down an idea and decide later on a format, such as SMS/MMS, email, calendar or memo, to send or share it. - Swype: Allows users to input text faster and in a more intuitive way with one continuous finger motion across the screen keyboard. - Smart Alarm: Wake up with a natural alarm sound and display light that automatically turns on.
