Samsung Mobile Display has just announced its plans to improve white efficiency, as well as the lifetime of AMOLED displays from 50.000 hours to 100.000 hours. Samsung Mobile Display is leading the innovative evolution of displays based on its display technology and production capability that are among the best in the world, and it is also leading the growth of the world's display industry.

In the Keynote speech of SID 2010, Sang Soo Kim, Vice President of Samsung Mobile Display (SMD) presented the benefits of AMOLED and the company's aim to improve its products. The company also intends to improve the efficiency from the current 20cd/A to 40cd/A in the near future and power consumption levels from 62W to less than 30W.

Further, Sang Soo Kim mentioned that SMD "will apply advanced color pattern method in the manufacturing process for overcoming the large size limitation of current FMM method and also thin film method instead current glass base encapsulation method and in the future, they will apply Oxide substrate for developing and mass-production."

SMD stated that it already invested approximately $2.2B to order 5.5 generation equipments and that the set-up will be started by the end of 2010 for mass-production in 2011. Thus, Samsung Mobile 5.5 gen production line should be ready first quarter 2011 and mass production ready in July 2011. By increasing the substrates' size from 4 generation to 5.5 generation, the number of same size panels produced from one substrate also grows, bringing more production efficiency.

And to show that mobile phones are not the only ones that will benefit from the new technology, Sang Soo Kim added that, 'in 2015, Mobile AMOLED panel production will be increased rapidly and also AMOLED would be the mainstream in the premium TV market.'
