The high-end Samsung GALAXY S II smartphone is expected to arrive on the market in Canada on the airwaves of SaskTel in the coming weeks, the wireless carrier has just announced.

The mobile phone, one of the most powerful Android-based devices in the world, comes to the market with a 1.2GHz application processor inside, complemented by 1GB of RAM, and sports a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display for a great viewing experience.

The Galaxy S II runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, offers true multitasking capabilities so that users can enjoy multiple applications at the same time, and also supports various Google Mobile services.

“With the Samsung GALAXY S II, Samsung takes its leadership in Speed, Screen and Content to a whole new level,” said Paul Brannen, vice president of Samsung Mobile Canada.

“This stunning device, coupled with the incredible fast speeds of the SaskTel 4G network, provides users with a new standard of performance and quality viewing on mobile.”

The new device also comes with specific content from Samsung, as well as with entertainment hubs from the company, and offers instant access to music, games, e-reading and social networking services.

On the back, the new mobile phone will sport an 8-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, auto focus and support for full HD (1080p) video recording, paired with a front-facing camera for video calling.

The handset also arrives on the market with HSPA+ connectivity, WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, built-in GPS receiver with support for Google Maps and other location-based services, USB port, and 3.5mm headphone jack.

The mobile phone carrier also confirmed that the new device will sport a price tag of $79.99 on a three-year voice and data term, and that it will be put for sale via all SaskTel Stores and through SaskTel Authorized Dealers.
