The PS3 is finally launching in Korea as well. Sony's shipping 60 GB units over there (obviously), retailing for 500-600,000 won, bringing it close to USD$540-650, as Kotaku calculates. Sony isn't exactly hoping for record sales here as you might have guessed, but just so you know, Microsoft's Xbox 360 has sold a considerable amount of machines: some 100.000 units to be more exact.

"Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console is expected to hit shelves in Korea next month. According to game industry insiders on Wednesday, Sony Computer Entertainment Korea asked its head office in Japan to finalize the release date of the PS3 in Korea, which is likely to be June," Biz/Tech posts.

"SCEK is currently working out sales details with the head office, including pricing and models that will be available. Once the Japanese headquarters gives the go ahead, SCEK will launch an aggressive marketing campaign in Korea. The industry is predicting that Sony will release in Korea a deluxe model of the PS3 with a wireless LAN adapter and a 60GB hard disk priced between W500,000 and W600,000."

Is Sony even hoping to do anything with the 20 GB model anymore? Wasn't it obvious that a premium SKU was the logical choice? Even with 60 gigs of storage space, the console still gathers dust on store shelves, but what the heck, let's see if Koreans take the bait on that LAN adapter, right?
