The usage of mobile phones for accessing the Internet has been steadily growing lately, and the latest report from Opera software on mobile web is meant to prove exactly that. According to the company, the number of page views on mobile went up by more than 14 percent from July to August, while the mobile data transfers grew by 10 percent from one month to the other.

Opera Mini, the most popular mobile browser in the world, market impressive growth too, as it reached 66.5 million users, up four million in August when compared to July.

The increase was of 6.8 percent from one month to the other, at the percentage wet to 108.3 when it comes to the number of unique users in August 2010, compared to the same month of 2009.

All of the browser's users viewed more than 33.9 billion pages during August 2010, up 14.3 percent when compared to the number of page views in July. On a yearly basis, the increase was of 143.2 percent.

Some other findings include:

- In August 2010, Opera Mini users generated more than 489.4 million MB of data for operators worldwide. Since July, the data consumed went up by 9.9%. Data in Opera Mini is compressed by up to 90%. If this data were uncompressed, Opera Mini users would have viewed more than 4.5 petabytes of data in August. Since August 2009, data traffic is up 134.4%.

- Instead of the usual top 10, this month Opera begins in-depth profiling of the top 20 countries for Opera Mini usage. The top 20 are, in order: Indonesia, Russia, India, China, Ukraine, South Africa, United States, Vietnam, United Kingdom, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Poland, Nigeria, Malaysia, Belarus, Philippines, Egypt, Germany, Brazil and Bangladesh.

The info comes from Opera’s State of the Mobile Web Report, which is published each month, and which offers info on the major trends in the mobile web area.

“Growth of the mobile Web worldwide accelerated dramatically in August,” said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software, adding that “these numbers are not limited to smartphones alone.”
