Obopay, a company specialized in mobile payments, announced that bank customers can now use their existing bank accounts to send and receive money from their mobile phones. The new feature introduced by Obopay allows users to pick up payments without having to sign up for Obopay.

By linking an existing checking or saving account at any U.S. bank with Obopay, customers can receive and send money from that account using the mobile phone. Anyone can pick up the received money by having it deposited into their existing bank account or by requesting a check without having to sign up for Obopay. Obopay can be added to an existing bank account, can be used with a separate Obopay account, or both. Users don't need to know a recipient's banking information to send money, only their phone number.

"Obopay's mission has always been to provide the best tools possible to conveniently get, send and spend money from any mobile phone," said Carol Realini, CEO of Obopay. "Now we provide it directly from any bank account. This is a significant enhancement of our features, and one that is based on direct feedback from our users. We're excited to make Obopay even more useful to millions of Americans."

Obopay is a service that lets consumers and businesses purchase, pay, and transfer money through any mobile phone using Obopay's mobile application, text message, mobile Web, widget, or Obopay website. Obopay is the first mobile payment service created exclusively for the mobile phone, and works on any phone and any carrier. Obopay is protected by a PIN based system that asks the user to enter a unique number when a payment request is made or a payment sent. Obopay is bringing mobile payments to more consumers through strategic alliances with Citi, Verizon Wireless and America Online.
