New mid to low end phone

Sony Ericsson Emelie is one of the future handsets that the Swedish-Japanese producer will soon bring to the market. We don't know if "Emelie" will be the final name of the phone, but we do know that, according to the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog, the new device is a mid to low end one.

There are not too many details about Sony Ericsson Emelie and not even a full image with it. However, the phone has a nice metallic look, 18 silvery keys, a D-pad control, some shortcut keys and a QVGA display (240 x 320 pixels) with support for 262k colors. Also, the handset packs a 2 Megapixel camera that lacks auto focus, hence it will not be able to provide high-quality pictures (still, it is a good camera to take occasional snapshots).

Sony Ericsson Emelie is using a A200-based operating system, weighs about 100 grams and will have a retail price in the 150 - 200 Euro ($230 - $310) range. Since it is not a high-end device, the handset will not include features like Wi-Fi or GPS. Judging from the specs currently available, we could say that Emelie is a more evolved version of the T303 slider from Sony Ericsson, a phone that we recently saw live, during CeBIT 2008.

Since Emelie sounds a bit feminine (or a bit more), the new phone could be one mainly created for girls and women. On the other hand, Sony Ericsson also has the Xperia series, that also sounds feminine. And we all know Xperia X1, which is kind of bulky, is definitely not targeted for girls. Of course, this doesn't mean they won't be able to buy it.

The release date of Sony Ericsson Emelie is not known for the moment, but we should expect it to hit the market somewhere in the second half of 2008. More details about the new phone will come when available.
