Wireless carrier OS announced today that the high-end HTC HD2 mobile phone from the Taiwan-based maker HTC Corporation is set to make it on shelves starting today. The new device, one of the highly expected phones launched by O2 during the ongoing year, brings forth a wide range of features to users, including a large 4.3-inch touch screen and a camera with LED flash capabilities.

The HTC HD2 is the first HTC branded phone to be sold on O2. We love the large screen and combination of Windows Mobile 6.5 with HTC Sense,” said Steve Alder, general manager Devices for O2 in the UK. “We are proud to be the home of smartphones and the HTC HD2 adds a new dimension to the range of devices we offer to our customers.”

What the HTC HD2 is set to deliver to users in the UK includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1Ghz processor, built-in GPS receiver, Wi-Fi connectivity options, FM Radio, a standard 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth connectivity, and microUSB charging port, as well as a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, all within a device that is only 11mm thick and weighs 157 grams.

Jon French, executive director UK & IE, HTC, said, “The close partnership between HTC and Microsoft means we are able to bring HTC Sense, a customer experience which makes the phone work in a more simple, natural and personal way, to a Windows phone for the first time with the HD2. With one of the largest screens in the market, the powerful and ultra-thin HD2 offers users an amazing mobile experience.”

Great social networking capabilities also come with the handset, including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter integration. The new HTC HD2 is now available for purchase from O2 UK for free on specific Pay Monthly plans. The carrier also added that those interested in purchasing the new device would be able to find it available both in its stores and online on its website (though we couldn't find it there, to speak the truth).
