Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia and A1 have announced today that the Nokia Messaging consumer email service will be offered to A1's subscribers in Austria starting with May 2009. The service goes for the first time in the country via A1, part of mobilkom austria, and is meant to allow users to enjoy easy access to mobile email on their Nokia mobile phones.

The introduction of Nokia Messaging in Austria also comes with a special offer, as both the service and its associated data plan will be offered free of charge for the first month, also considered a test period, after which users will have to pay a subscription price of 5 Euros per month.

“A1 aims to make mobile applications easily available for our 4.5 million customers. We have constantly proven our know-how and innovativeness with mobile email solutions. Now, we are delighted to be in the frontline in bringing Nokia Messaging to Austria. As the leading solution provider for mobile email in Austria we are again delighting our customers with an attractive offer,” said Dr. Reinhard Zuba, head of marketing, mobilkom austria.

Users who will use Nokia Messaging will be offered access to email accounts from thousands of ISPs around the world directly from their Nokia mobile phone. The email accounts that can be mobilized through the service include not only the A1.net, but those coming from popular webmail providers like Yahoo! Mail, Windows Live Hotmail, Gmail and more.

“With an extremely easy-to-use application that allows consumers to access multiple email accounts on the same device, and an affordable data plan, mobile email with Nokia Messaging has the potential to become as popular as text messaging,” said Greig Williams, managing director, Nokia Alps South East Europe. “At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February we announced our strategy to make mobile multimedia available for everyone. Now, we take an important step in this direction through the roll-out of Nokia Messaging in Austria, in cooperation with mobilkom austria.”

Consumers will be granted access to up to 10 personal email accounts on a Nokia S60-device through Nokia Messaging, and the service is also meant to eliminate complicated steps while setting up the accounts, making it much easier to put things in order. In addition, it also includes Push email technology to make sure emails are sent to the mobile device the instant they arrive in the inbox. Users will also be able to enjoy easier reading, sending, forwarding and replying to emails, while the download and reading of attachments, as well as the attaching of files to emails are also simplified.

The Nokia Messaging service will come to mobilkom austria subscribers starting with May 2009 on the new Nokia E75 phone and on the Nokia N96. More information on supported models and on the necessary software applications can be found here.
