Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has announced today that it has made an agreement with Telefonica Spain for the introduction of its Nokia Messaging push email service in the country. Through this deal, Telefonica Spain becomes one of the first cell phone operators around the globe to offer the solution to their customers, while also making another step in the development of mobile Internet in Spain.

As many of you might already know, Nokia Messaging is meant to simplify the mobilization of email. The solution is able to provide easy access to up to 10 personal email accounts on the same handset, while also being able to simplify the process and to eliminate complex steps from the equation. In addition, the included push technology makes sure that emails are quickly delivered directly to the mobile phone.

The Nokia Messaging service offers compatibility with a wide range of Internet service providers (ISPs), including terra.es and telefonica.net, says the mobile phone maker. Users will be able to set up, access and use personal inboxes via a fast and simple solution. At the same time, the company also announced that the service would become available for Telefonica customers via a flat and affordable rate.

“With this service, Nokia and Telefónica aim to respond to the growing consumer demand to be able to access their email accounts directly on the Nokia device whenever they want, wherever they want. In Spain, there are more than 15 million active personal email accounts, so there is tremendous potential for the number of users that can leverage this service. The objective is to bring mobile email to the masses and make it accessible to the largest number of users possible,” said Marieta del Rivero, general manager, Nokia Iberia.

People who would like to use Nokia Messaging will have at their disposal a wide range of Nokia S60 devices to choose from. Telefonica customers will be able to launch the Nokia Messaging on their already existing Nokia device through a simple set-up process. The service is meant to mobilize not only ISP email accounts, but popular webmail accounts as well, including Yahoo! Mail, Windows Live Hotmail and Gmail.
