Recently, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has made one of its Android-based devices available for purchase for free upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement, namely the Motorola DEVOUR with MOTOBLUR.

The full retail price for this device was set at $479.99, while the original contract price tag was $179.99, though it seems that the carrier considered the device would appeal more to customers if available for free.

“Taste social networking at its best with the Motorola Devour. Verizon Wireless’ first Android phone featuring MOTOBLUR, the Devour packs a 3.1" touchscreen, a Touch Sensitive Navigation Key, a pre–installed 8GB microSD card and is Bluetooth capable for Wireless Headset and Stereo support,” the wireless carrier states.

Those interested in trying out the new device should know that it requires at least a data package of $29.99 per month, and that it comes with an Early Termination Fee of $350 (1yr and 2yr contracts).

“And because it runs the Android OS, you can load thousands of apps, and jump between them with killer speed. So step away from your PC, because now you can talk, text, chat, send pics and stay socially connected on the Network with the most 3G coverage,” the wireless carrier continues.

In case there are some who might have not encountered the mobile phone until now, we should note that it includes a 3.1-inch touchscreen with a slide-out QWERTY Keyboard, along with a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back (with video capture capabilities).

The specifications list of this device also includes Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, as well as Wi-Fi capabilities (802.11 b/g), and aGPS for E911 emergency location/sGPS.

The handset sports a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 16 GB of additional storage space and with an 8GB microSD card pre–installed.

It also packs a Qualcomm MSM7627 processor, CDMA EVDO rev A support, 3.5mm Headset Jack and support for a wide range of Google services, all inside a handset that measures 4.55" x 2.4" x 0.61" and weighs in at 6.35 ounces.

One of the main features of this Android  mobile phone is the MOTOBLUR user interface that Motorola pre-loaded on it.

“Now everything you’re into comes to you in a single stream. Get your texts, feeds, emails and social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. All in real time, all synched on one homescreen,” Verizon notes.
