Along with other handsets

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is reportedly gearing up to phase out some of the handsets that proved highly popular among its users, including the high-end DROID by Motorola, or Research In Motion's BlackBerry Tour 9630. With the DROID X by Motorola launched on the operator's airwaves on Thursday, and with the successor of Tour 9630, namely Bold 9650, already there to do its job, these appealing mobile phones might have just reached the end of their life cycle.

According to a recent post on Droid-Forums, it would be only a matter of time before Big Red decides to go official with the move. Leaked documentation from the wireless carrier was published as proof of the company's plans, in the form of a screen shot that reportedly showed an internal message from the carrier. According to this shot, both the DROID by Motorola and the Motorola Devour are expected to see “limited or no remaining shipments from the vendor.”

With the new generation of DROID already making it to the headlines, and with another such device expected to arrive in the near future, it would make sense for Verizon to plan moving ahead. Even so, we should note that both said Motorola devices are still in stock on the carrier's website. With DROID X selling like hot cakes, and with it and the DROID Incredible shipping with delays from day one, Verizon might want to think twice before ending the life cycle of these handsets.

However, it seems that a wide range of other mobile phones are also include in the list, though only two of them can be seen in the shot, namely the Nokia 7705 Twist and the BlackBerry Tour 9630. According to slashgear, chances are that Samsung Knack U310, Smooth U350, Intensity U450 and Saga I770, as well as the Gateway LT2016U would get axed too. For the time being, nothing has been officially confirmed.
