Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has recently put on sale a new Android-based handset for its users, the Motorola DEVOUR, another side sliding QWERTY device from the handset vendor. The new device can be purchased from the wireless operator for $149.99 after a $100 mail-in and upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with Big Red, and is available in all Verizon Wireless Communications Stores, as well as online on the carrier's website.

DEVOUR is the second Android-powered smartphone from Motorola to run on Verizon Wireless' 3G Network. The phone comes with MOTOBLUR, Motorola's unique content delivery service created to make wireless phones more personal and customizable,” the handset vendor notes. Indeed, this is the first handset to land at Verizon with the Android OS on board and the MOTOBLUR solution thrown over it, and we should add that those who will purchase it will also benefit from the feature Skype can offer, as the app comes on it too.

The specifications list of the new device includes a 3.1-inch capacitive touch screen, sliding QWERTY keyboard, touch-sensitive navigation pad, Bluetooth capabilities with support for A2DP, HID, HSP, HFP, AVRCP and GAP profiles, aGPS for navigation functionality, as well as a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, with an 8GB memory card included in the package. The phone can be seen on the carrier's website here.

The handset also sports a series of pre-loaded applications like Gmail, Google Talk, YouTube, Google Search and Google Maps with Google Maps Navigation. Moreover, the Motorola DEVOUR comes with access to the Android Market, from where users can download a wide range of applications developed for Google's OS, and also includes a Happenings Widget, which brings updates from popular social networking sites, as well as a Universal Inbox, which puts together texts, social network messages and e-mails in a single view.

Motorola DEVOUR customers will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk or Nationwide Talk & Text plan and an Email and Web for Smartphone plan. Nationwide Talk plans begin at $39.99 monthly access, while Nationwide Talk & Text plans begin at $59.99 monthly access. An Email and Web for Smartphone plan is $29.99 for unlimited monthly access. Customers will receive the handset rebate in the form of a debit card; upon receipt, customers may use the card as cash anywhere debit cards are accepted,” Verizon added.
