One of the most appealing devices that mobile phone maker Motorola is expected to put on shelves during the ongoing year with Google's Android operating system on board would be the Motorola ATRIX 4G, which is rumored to be set for a February release with some of its features limited at the beginning.

Apparently, the handset would arrive on the market without the 1080p video recording capabilities enabled, thought it would receive a software update soon after to fix the issue.

The Motorola ATRIX 4G is powered by a Tegra 2 application processor from Nvidia, which offers it the possibility to record videos in full HD.

However, the mobile phone might have the feature crippled when it first hits the shelves sometime next month, according to rumors.

A software update that Motorola plans on releasing for the device after the official launch, most probably soon after, should enable the feature, so that users would be able to enjoy to the full this phone's capabilities.

As Engadget notes in a recent article, Motorola's website is the place to look for info on the matter. When listing the phone's specs, Motorola notes that it would deliver 720p video capture: “1080p will be supported via SW upgrade post-launch.”

The same applies to the handset's video playback capabilities through its HDMI port, it seems: “playback through HDMI is 720p at launch and will be upgraded to 1080p via SW upgrade post-launch,” Motorola notes.

The Motorola ATRIX 4G was unveiled officially at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January, and should become available for purchase sometime in February, it seems.

Motorola's CEO Sanjay Jha was the one to confirm the February release of the device, during the company's earnings call for the fourth quarter of the last year.

Moreover, the mobile phone made a brief appearance on Amazon, with a price tag of $149.99 on contract or $599.99 off-contract, and with a February 11th release date attached to it. Previous rumors suggested February 13th as the phone's launch day.

In all fairness, nothing was confirmed officially on the phone's availability for the time being, but we might be able to learn more on it as soon as February arrives, so stay tuned.
