Mobile phone maker Motorola announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early 2011 the upcoming availability of a series of new devices on the US market, one of which would be the Motorola ATRIX 4G, supposedly the most powerful smartphone in the world.

According to Motorola, it shouldn't be too long before the new mobile phone proves it can deliver performance levels that near those of larger mobile devices, such as netbooks or tablets.

The Motorola ATRIX 4G is expected to land on the United States market via wireless carrier AT&T, and some of the latest rumors on it suggested that the launch date for this device might have been set for March 1st.

While no official confirmation of this emerged for the time being, the Motorola ATRIX 4G has just cleared FCC, which shows that Motorola and AT&T are indeed gearing up for a near launch.

The handset was spotted at FCC as in Motorola's IHD-P56LS1 filing, and the fact that it comes with support for 850 and 1900MHz 3G frequencies, the same as AT&T's 4G network.

In addition to these connectivity options, the handset would come with support for 5GHz 802.11n WiFi, a feature that is not commonly seen with phones, Engadget notes in a recent article.

The new mobile phone sports the model number MB860, but no further details on it emerged for the time being.

The Motorola ATRIX 4G lands on shelves with a dual-core applications processor inside, clocked in at 1GHz, complemented by 1GB of RAM, which would make it a quite powerful device, that's for sure.

The specifications list of this device also includes a qHD display, 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot to increase the available memory space with 32GB cards, GPS navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and more.

Powered by Google's Android operating system, the handset should offer a wide range of appealing features when made available for purchase, which might happen pretty soon, provided that rumors pan out.
