The co-creator of popular fighting series Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, has talked about the newest game in the franchise, titled simply Mortal Kombat, and how it will be pure "fan service," thanks to all the features that it will have.

In case you haven't heard already, after the slightly disappointing Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe fighting game, the series will be rebooted through a whole new Mortal Kombat title, set to appear next year.

We already know it will have lots of classic fighters, with brand new moves and fatalities, but also refreshed graphics and bonus fighters like God of War's Kratos.

The creator now reveals how the game will cater to the desires of the fans, taking a back to basics approach, combined with all the elements that made the franchise to popular.

"Our biggest intention is kind of like a Mortal Kombat fan service," Boon mentioned during the Spike TV Video Game Awards last weekend.

"Mortal Kombat's taken a number of turns and we've kind of reinvented ourselves a few times and in the last game was the biggest departure because we were actually a T-Rated (Teen) game, so this game will really come back and be as 'Mortal Kombat' as anybody ever remembers."

He went on, "It's very much giving the Mortal Kombat fans the Mortal Kombat they've been asking for."

Boon then said that the new title felt like a cross between Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, two of the most popular fighting games in the series.

The game will act as a fresh start for the series, and is currently being worked upon by Boon and his team at NetherRealm.

As of right now, the Mortal Kombat reboot is set to appear in April around the world, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with Standard, Kollector's and Tournament editions.
