Confirming rumors from last week, God of War hero Kratos will be a playable character for the PlayStation 3 version of the upcoming Mortal Kombat fighting game, as a trailer that aired during last weekend's Spike TV Video Game Awards has showcased the God of War protagonist fighting against Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

Even if this special appearance was leaked last week, this is certainly an unexpected turn of events, as Mortal Kombat isn't known for featuring special characters.

Kratos will be a playable character only on the PlayStation 3 version of the upcoming Mortal Kombat fighting game, which is set to appear around the middle of 2011 on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Kratos, at least judging by the trailer showcased during the awards ceremony, will use his trademark blades of chaos, and will have his own skill and move set, as well as his own special fatality move, which he can use to finish off opponents.

Don't expect Kratos to have his own back story in the game, as he'll just be available as a bonus fighter, besides the regular ones for the franchise, like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile or Kitana.

Sadly, NetherRealm, the studio which is currently working on the new Mortal Kombat, haven't revealed anything else about the fighter roster.

As we revealed during the rumor story from last week, a series of other fighters were also leaked through audio clips on the Mortal Kombat website.

These fighters include Ermac, Goro, Kabal, Noob Saibot, Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Sindel, Smoke, and Stryker.

As of right now, however, just fifteen playable characters have been revealed: Cyrax, Jax, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Kung Lao, Mileena, Nightwolf, Raiden, Reptile, Scorpion Sektor, Shao Kahn, Sonya and Sub-Zero.

If Mortal Kombat has Kratos as a playable character in its PlayStation 3 version, then it's pretty obvious that it is going to have another special fighter in its Xbox 360 version.

Who do you think will be chosen from the array of Xbox 360 franchises? Halo's Master Chief, Gears of War's Marcus Fenix or maybe someone else?
