A huge rumor appeared on the web today, saying that God of War protagonist Kratos might be one of the special playable characters in the upcoming Mortal Kombat game, which is set to appear next year.

According to the rumor, it will soon be revealed that Mortal Kombat, which will appear on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, will have special playable characters on the two platforms.

While the Xbox 360 exclusive character is still unknown, the one for Sony's PlayStation 3 is God of War hero Kratos.

The rumor says that Kratos will have his own special move set, as well as a special fatality, but don't expect him to have his own special story, as he will just act as a bonus fighter, alongside the other characters that will appear in the upcoming title.

Besides Kratos, an array of other fighters were also leaked onto the web.

These include Ermac, Goro, Kabal, Noob Saibot, Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Sindel, Smoke, and Stryker.

The characters mentioned above were extrapolated from a series of sound files that appeared on the official Mortal Kombat web page, but were quickly taken down by the administrators, so there's no way to confirm any of this.

Before God of War fans rush out to pre-order the next Mortal Kombat, do bear in mind that this is just a rumor, at least for the moment, as neither NetherRealm, the developer of the upcoming fighting game, nor Sony commented on the rumor.

If this turns out to be true, then what playable character would the Xbox 360 version of Mortal Kombat get?

Marcus Fenix from Gears of War, Master Chief from Halo or an Agent from Crackdown?
