Wireless carrier Sprint has just launched a new device meant to offer its users fast access to the Sprint 4G services, namely the Sprint U600 3G/4G USB Modem. The new device is said to replace the U301 solution, while offering better capabilities in a smaller form factor, not to mention that it consumes less power than the older device.

“Sprint continues to grow its rich portfolio of 3G/4G mobile broadband devices with the addition of Sprint 3G/4G USB U600. This device delivers lightning speeds in 4G markets and dependable 3G speeds virtually everywhere else,” the wireless carrier announced.

The Sprint 3G/4G USB U600 can connect automatically to Sprint 3G with Sprint SmartView, and it sports a rotating design for easy plug-in and adjustable placement.

The new device comes with support for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP and Mac OS 10.5, 10.6 with Intel PCs.

Its features list includes Hands-Free Activation via OMA-DM, along with LED indicators for 3G and 4G connectivity, in addition to external antenna ports for 3G and 4G.

“On the 4G network, users may run multiple media applications simultaneously, videoconference without the lag, and download songs and videos at speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G in those metropolitan areas across the country enabled with the new 4G mobile broadband service,” the carrier notes.

Other features of the new Sprint 3G/4G USB U600 include GPS Location Based Services for 3G, firmware Over-the-Air updates for 3G (FUMO), and EV-DO Rev. 0 and 1xRTT network compatibility.

According to the wireless carrier, “on the 3G network, users may employ GPS to pinpoint and map their location and then navigate with ease while out of town or on the road.”

The device measures 1.26 x 2.91 x 0.55 inches and weighs in at 1.1 ounces. It includes a Qualcomm QSC6085 chipset and can operate at CDMA Dual Band 800/1900 MHz; GPS 1.5 GHz L-Band; WiMAX 2.5GHz frequencies.
