On Monday, Clearwire Corporation announced the launch of a new service for its customers, namely Rover, the first ever pay-as-you-go 4G mobile broadband service in the United States.

According to the wireless services provider, the new offering was put in place mainly for tech-savvy Gen Y customers, offering them the possibility to enjoy enhanced mobile Internet speeds without having to sign long-term contracts.

“The Rover brand is designed for digitally addicted youth who refuse to settle for long-term contracts, overpriced internet service, or speeds slower than what they've become accustomed to at home,” Clearwire announced.

The new service was put in place in all of the 49 markets where Clearwire's 4G network is available.

Those interested in Rover should head to rover.com to get it, or to CLEAR stores, Best Buy stores and various independent wireless dealers in Houston and St. Louis.

“Simple, commitment-free wireless services are wildly popular with the Gen Y crowd, and Rover provides them with the first pay-as-you-go unlimited mobile internet offering at 4G speeds,” said Mike Sievert, chief commercial officer for Clearwire.

Rover becomes the latest brand connected to the Clearwire 4G network, in addition to existing brands like CLEAR, Sprint 4G, Comcast High-Speed 2Go, Time Warner Cable Roadrunner 4G, Best Buy Connect and Cbeyond.

The Clearwire 4G network has reached various markets around the United States, being able to offer enhanced 4G speeds to a number of over 56 million people, the company announced.

“We've built Rover from the ground up with products, pricing and features designed specifically to serve a younger market who knows how you get connected is just as important as where,” Sievert stated, adding that the company is set to expand its offer for more market segments.

Two devices are available with the service, including Rover Puck and Rover Stick, one available for $149.99 (plus tax), while the other being priced at $99.99 (plus tax).
