For more flexibility in messaging

Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just delivered two new software updates for users of two of its most popular handsets on the market at the moment, namely the HTC Touch Pro2 and HTC Touch Diamond2. On Thursday, both devices received a firmware update from the company, aimed at improving the handwriting capabilities they come to the market with.

Here's what the handset vendor notes on its support page: “This update for HTC Touch Pro2 lets you write the way you want to. Now in addition to the full QWERTY keypad, simulating a full physical keyboard experience, HTC Touch Pro2 now offers handwriting recognition to give you more flexibility to send messages to your loved ones.” The same applies to the HTC Touch Diamond2.

When it comes to the installation process, HTC notes that users should check the AP version, and that they need to make sure it is equal to Version 2.1 (Build 1920.2429), or lower for the HTC Touch Pro2, or equal to Version 2.1 (Build1919.1320), or lower for the HTC Touch Diamond2. Here's how the AP version can be checked on either of the phones: Press HOME, then slide to Settings > All Settings > Personal > Input > Tap the arrow to the right of the keyboard icon Touch Input version, then tap About> Touch Input for the Pocket PC Version.

From here, things are rather simple. One should make sure that the handset is synced with a PC, something that can be done via the Microsoft ActiveSync on a Windows XP PC or through Windows Mobile Device Center on a Windows Vista PC. The phone should then be connected to the PC, and the appropriate software update downloaded to the computer.

Both firmware updates are available for download on HTC's support website, here for the Touch Pro2, and here for the Touch Diamond2. The update comes as an executable file, tap it and then follow the instructions. We should also mention that the update will be lost if a hard reset of the device is performed, and one will need to install it once again in such a case.
