Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation is hard at work with improving the functionality of one of the nicest handsets that it delivered to the market during the ongoing year, the HTC HD2. The device, which is powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, has recently seen two new ROM updates from the company, one that improves its overall functionality, and one aimed mainly at a software issue with its camera, and now it receives another update from the vendor.

The new firmware update HTC delivers to users of an HTC HD2 mobile phone is aimed at improving the handset's SMS functionality, it seems. “This update for HTC HD2 messaging lets you reach out to your friends and family with instant notifications. Keeping in touch has always been very important, and this update delivers just that: fast and reliable SMS messaging,” is what the company has to say about the software solution on its support page.

Those of you who own an HTC HD2 and feel they need to improve the SMS capabilities of the device should note that the new firmware update is available only for ROM versions that are equal to 1.49.XXX.X or are lower. At the same time, they need to make sure that they have Microsoft ActiveSync installed on their PC, if it runs under Windows XP, or Windows Mobile Device Center installed, if the PC runs under Windows Vista.

The update process will require for the handset to be synchronized with the aforementioned solutions through the USB cable and for the update file to be downloaded, something that can be done from the HTC's website here. The update comes in the form of an .exe file, and users will only have to follow the on-screen instructions after download to install it. One other thing that should be noted is that the update will need be reinstalled in case a hard reset of the phone is performed.
