During the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced the release of its first Tablet PC, the HTC Flyer, which arrives on shelves with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, with a capacitive touchscreen display, and with a digital pen included into the mix. To be more precise, only the support for this stylus was included, as the pen itself is being sold separately, and for quite a lot, it seems.

On HTC's Accessory Store for the UK, the pen is listed with a price tag of £47.99, with expected availability set for June 1st, 2011, about three weeks from now. It would cost €49.99 in the rest of Europe. The price includes a AAAA battery.

The HTC Flyer is listed as available for pre-order in the United States via Best Buy, and the retailer has the said pen on its website as well, with a price tag of $79.99 attached to it.

Most probably, this would be the cost the stylus would sport when Flyer arrives at Sprint too, under the name of EVO View 4G, with support for the carrier's 3G and 4G services included into the mix.

When launching the Flyer, HTC did say that the digital pen would be optional, but did not offer specific info on its availability or pricing at the time.

The tablet PC is listed at Best Buy for $499, which might be considered quite a lot by some, especially since the device sports only a 7-inch touchscreen display, and a single-core application processor (clocked in at 1.5GHz).

For those out of the loop, we should note that the pen was meant to enable enhanced typing accuracy, as well as precision of writing and drawing, and the like.

According to HTC, some of the main features of this product would include:

- HTC Magic Pen interacts seamlessly with your HTC Flyer - Lets you write notes and draw on the screen of your HTC Flyer - Easy and quick highlighting and annotations on eBooks or web pages.
