Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has confirmed once again plans to deliver an update to the latest Android flavor for tablet PCs (3.0 Honeycomb) to early adopters of its first such device, the HTC Flyer, soon after it lands in their hands. The tablet PC was launched in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and is set to land on shelves in the very near future.

The HTC Flyer was released with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, but this platform release was not meant for use on the larger screens of tablet PCs, and Honeycomb will be very welcomed on it.

According to a recent tweet from HTC, the company plans on making the OS upgrade available for the Flyer soon after the device hits shelves, though a specific release date was not confirmed for the time being.

However, this should make the device even more appealing than before. Those who feared that the lack of Android 3.0 Honeycomb would limit the tablet's functionality can rejoice now.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the HTC Flyer lands on shelves with a 7-inch touchscreen display on board, capable of boasting a 1024 X 600 pixel resolution.

Moreover, it sports a single-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor, along with microSD memory card slot to expand the available memory, and 3G and WiFi connectivity options (though HTC also launched WiFi-only flavors of the device).

The specifications list of the new device also includes a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, complemented by a 1.3 webcam on the front, for video calling.

Other specs of the new device would include a 3.5mm headphone jack, built-in GPS receiver, the usual set of sensors, and the like.

The 3G-capable flavor of the device was put on pre-order in Europe a while ago, and is expected to land on shelves on May 9th. The device should land in the US too soon, with pre-sales already live at Best Buy.
