On Friday, Best Buy announced that it would start offering the Wi-Fi-only version of the HTC Flyer for pre-order to its customers starting with April 25th.

The new tablet PC would be put on pre-sales via all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile standalone stores around the United States, the retailer announced.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Best Buy is the exclusive retailer for the highly-anticipated Wi-Fi-only flavor of the HTC Flyer tablet.

The new device is expected to be put for sale later during spring, with a price tag of $499 attached to it.

“We are excited to be the only national store where you can pre-order and purchase the Wi-Fi version of the HTC Flyer,” said Scott Anderson, head of merchandising for Best Buy Mobile.

“There is a tremendous amount of excitement and curiosity about tablets in our stores and adding the HTC Flyer to the mix will drive even more interest.”

The HTC Flyer was launched during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona as HTC's first tablet PC to run under Google's Android operating system.

The device comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display into the mix, along with a 1.5GHz application processor, and the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

Some of the main features of the new tablet would include dual cameras, microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, WiFi connectivity, 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS receiver, and the like.

The new device would also offer support for a wide range of Google Mobile services, including Gmail, Google Maps, Search, YouTube, or Google Talk, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.

The HTC Flyer is a fast, portable, light-weight tablet that integrates the immersive and highly intuitive HTC Sense experience and enables content including videos, music, games and more to be easily accessed and enjoyed,” Best Buy explains.
