Recently, wireless carrier Sprint has announced that its HTC EVO 4G, the first 4G device in the US, was received a new recognition, in the form of the prestigious POPULAR MECHANICS Breakthrough Award. The handset already received various awards from technology and telecommunications media and analysts, the carrier announced.

POPULAR MECHANICS announced the winners of its Breakthrough Awards at the end of the last month, recognizing innovators and products in various fields, including technology.

The smartphone runs under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, after being launched with the Android 2.1 OS on board, and offers access to a number of more than 80,000 applications via the Android Market.

The HTC EVO 4G is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and boasts a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, as well as support for Sprint 4G speeds for a full, no-compromise Internet experience.

The handset comes with two cameras, an 8-megapixel one on the back, with auto focus and HD video recording capabilities, and a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling.

The specs list of this device also includes:

- Integrated HD video capture with the ability to capture and share live video via the Qik website, Facebook, YouTube or Twitter - Simultaneous voice and data capability in 4G or Wi-Fi coverage areas, enabling Web surfing and more during conversation - Built-in mobile hotspot functionality allowing up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices to share the 3G or 4G experience on the go with a laptop, camera, music player, game unit, video player, or any other Wi-Fi enabled device2 - Ability to easily watch video with the device on an HDTV via an HDMI cable (sold separately) Sprint launched 4G in Baltimore in September 2008, and currently offers the service in over 50 markets around the United States.
