Today, Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced the launch of a new Android-based smartphone on the market in Australia, namely the HTC Aria, which should be released exclusively on Optus' network in mid-October.

The new handset comes with Google's Android 2.1 OS on board, and should be available for purchase at the wireless carrier with a two-year contract agreement for $0 upfront on the $49 Optus Cap for end users, or the $49 Business Complete Advantage for small businesses.

The new mobile phone comes with a bright 3.2 inch HVGA display, complemented by an easy-to-carry design, and enhanced smartphone features.

“The HTC Aria’s unique combination of compact size and beautiful design instantly separates HTC Aria from other devices on the market,” said Anthony Petts, Sales and Marketing Director ANZ, HTC Corporation.

“HTC Aria’s seamless wrap-around back cover eliminates sharp edges, making HTC Aria exceptionally enjoyable to carry. By putting people at the centre of everything it does, HTC Aria streamlines and organises all of your communication.”

The specifications list of the new device includes the HTC Sense solution, meant to offer an enhanced experience to all users, as well as to keep them connected at all times with people that matter the most for them.

HTC Sense comes with the HTC Friend Stream application that integrates all social communication (Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr) in a single flow of updates.

“This simple aggregation makes it easier than ever to focus on what friends are doing as well as to view the images and links that they share. In addition to Friend Stream, people can be organized into specific social circles, such as groups of friends, colleagues or any other way that makes sense,” HTC notes.

HTC Aria and its HTC Sense experience will also offer an improved browser, email client, a new newsreader app and widget, as well as a seven-screen ‘Leap’ thumbnail view for fast access to various apps and features.

Other specs of the new device include Google search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and more, as well as fast access to the Android Market, where users will find a wide range of applications available for download on their devices.

Moreover, HTC Aria comes with weather info on the homescreen, as well as with Visual Mail, email and messaging features, all available for easy, fast access.

“We know customers who want a great Google experience on their mobile will love the new HTC Aria,” Mark Mulder, Head of Digital Products, Optus Digital Media, said.

“Optus already offers one of the largest ranges of Android-powered devices in Australia and the addition of the dynamic HTC Aria expands this range even further".

“Competitively priced at $49 per month over 24 months, our customers have the freedom to explore the features and functionality of the device and platform, backed up with a great data plan to suit their browsing needs.”
