Samsung Galaxy S II, the high-end smartphone that South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics officially unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, might have been delayed due to a planned increase in the speed of its processor.

According to some of the latest reports around the Internet, Samsung would have the Galaxy S II smartphone available for purchase only in late April or in May in some markets, although it was expected to launch it a full month earlier.

Moreover, other markets expect the device only in June, which means that Samsung would plan on delaying the device all over the world, though the company made no official announcement on the matter.

Rumor has it that the delay might have been caused by a planned bump in processor speed that Samsung has in store for its users, which would enable the mobile phone deliver better performance when compared to the previous model.

When announced, Galaxy S II was said to come to shelves with a dual-core application processor from Samsung, with each core clocked in at 1GHz.

On top of that, some suggested that the company would plan on releasing a Tegra 2-based flavor of the phone as well, and confirmation on that already emerged.

It appears that the new speed enhancement would be aimed at the initial flavor of Galaxy S II, which is now expected to arrive on shelves with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor inside.

Specific info on the matter did not surface for the time being, but it seems that Samsung themselves confirmed the move. Apparently, sources with the mobile phone maker also confirmed the speed increase for the new Galaxy S II devices.

Previous rumors also suggested that Samsung might plan on releasing a Galaxy S model (dubbed Plus) with a faster processor, but no confirmation on that story emerged until now. Stay tuned for more info on this.

Update: Recent tweets from Samsung state that the Galaxy S II would be launched in April as initially planned, but that it would be gradually rolled-out to various markets (here and here). With no specific time frame unveiled, it could very well mean that the rumors on the late April - early May launch were true.
