South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is hard at work with the development of an Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROM for its Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, and a leaked official build now available on the Internet is a proof of that.

In all fairness, Samsung did commit to the release of Gingerbread for Galaxy S in the not too far future but, based on the company's history with the delivery of the latest OS upgrade for this device, namely Android 2.2, it has been suggested that the actual update might not be that close.

However, an Android 2.3.3 ROM for the Galaxy S made an appearance into the wild recently, and is now available over at the XDA-Developers forum.

Apparently, the leaked software is indeed an official update for this device, though it might not be the final flavor of that ROM, bult only a development build.

The software that emerged is build I9000XXJVK, which is not being distributed to end-users at the moment, but which is said to be the one being installed at service centers with warranty service.

The OS flavor it would contain is reportedly 2.3.3 Gingerbread, the latest Android platform version from Google.

The leaked ROM is said to be quite stable, though users would have to run it with a matching bootloader to make sure that all would go well.

Those of you who would head over to this thread on the XDA-Developers forum would find some more info on the ROM itself, as well as on how it can be downloaded.

A quick look at the video embedded at the bottom of this article (via GSM Arena) would unveil some more details on it as well.

Although said to be an official ROM for the Galaxy S, this is a leaked software, and users should think twice before downloading and installing it on their devices, especially since it would require the rooting of the phone.

Not to mention that it might not be too long before Samsung themselves deliver the update to users, and that they would then be able to upgrade their Galaxy S units in a much safer way. Keep an eye on this space for updates on this.
