The Federal Communications Commission has prepared the new goodies for this year and the list begins with the approval of E-Ten's Glofish M700, a smartphone with a slide-out full featured QWERTY keyboard that, as most people have said since the first day it has been spotted in the wild, will be a serious contender to the handhelds launched by HTC, a much more renowned manufacturer on the communications market worldwide.

What does this quad-band Glofish have to offer you? A Windows Mobile 5.0 AKU 3.2 operating system working on a 400 MHz Samsung SC3 2442 processor, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth 2.0 and EDR, WiFi 802.11b/g connectivity technologies and, on top of them all, a SiRFStar III GPS chipset for those of us that tend to wander off the road on the way home.

The handset also features a 2 megapixel camera, push email technology, the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) so the user will be able to avoid the traffic jams, an FM radio to give the future owner the possibility to listen to his favorite radio stations while on-the-go and a series of E-Ten in-house software packages, some of which are M-Desk an easy to use program launcher, camera and editing software and a number of phone and messaging tools.

Unfortunately, there is a big drawback for this mobile device and that is the total lack of 3G capabilities. Though let's hope they will make us forget about that, after the official announcement of the price tag the M700 will wear on the retailers' shelves, an announcement due to come pretty soon after being approved by the FCC and, hopefully, the same announcement will also reveal the future carriers that will make this handheld available for their customers.
