The update might come soon to all users

Motorola DROID is one of the hottest mobile phones available on the market today with Google's Android operating system on board, one should agree. However, there is still a downside in this equation, namely the fact that it is still powered by an older flavor of the platform, namely Android 2.0.1, and not by the latest iteration, Android 2.1.

The newer operating system iteration is currently available on the Nexus One by HTC, the only handset sold via Google's own web store, and should arrive on recently unveiled mobile phones during the following months too, but older devices are also expected to taste it soon, and Motorola DROID is one of them. Its maker already committed to the delivery of the update, and DROID's owners will taste it in the near future, as reported before.

Even so, Android 2.1 is present on the DROID at the moment, at least not on all units out there. It seems that there are some lucky ones who managed to already get the new OS flavor on their handsets, and Pete from Android Overdrive is one of them. He states that an official Android 2.1 update for the DROID is what his device is running, and all can be seen on the video embedded at the bottom of this article.

According to him, the update works just fine with the DROID, but he still needs some more time before he can come up with a working ROM. Even so, the good news is that 2.1 for the DROID is almost here, and the leaked update can only suggest that other users of the device might soon taste the flavor too. The video below will show you a little of what Android 2.1 on DROID means, and, although some say that this is only an early build of the update, one should agree that it still performs pretty nicely. Hopefully, Motorola and Verizon will deliver the software to all DROID owners out there, so stay tuned for more details on this.
