DROID will see it soon

Mobile phone maker Motorola has made it to the headlines quite a few times during the past few weeks when it comes to the Android 2.1 software update for its handsets powered by Google's mobile operating system, as it promised the solution last week for one of its devices, but changed its mind. However, users now have the possibility to learn from Motorola itself what plans it has when it comes to delivering Android 2.1 to its users.

Motorola has posted on its support forums a timeline for that Android 2.1 update, and, while it does not say specifically when the software solution will be pushed on devices, it does provide an idea on the period set for the roll-out of the OS on various models, and it should also eliminate any doubts regarding the company's plans in the area. Interestingly, the update for DROID by Motorola “is expected to roll out soon,” just as the previously leaked internal memo from Verizon showed.

“Please note that we know you value having the latest and greatest technology on your devices. We are working very closely with Google and our carrier partners to bring you the most optimized experience on each of our smartphones powered by Android. We will continue to update the information below, regarding the timing and availability of software upgrades, and will provide additional details as we have them to share. We appreciate your understanding and continued support," Motorola also notes.

Most users out there will certainly appreciate Motorola's move, as they at least have the certainty that the Android 2.1 update will arrive on their handsets. As one can see in the screenshot attached to this article, Motorola MILESTONE should receive the update this quarter in Europe, CLIQ will taste it in Q2 in the US, while DEXT should have it in Q3 in Latin America and Asia-Pacific. However, MILESTONE users in Latin America and Asia-Pacific and DEXT owners in Europe still don't know when or whether the OS comes to them too.
