No details when it actually arrives

Mobile phone maker Motorola announced only a few days ago via its official Facebook page that it planned on delivering the much awaited Android 2.1 software update for the high-end Motorola DROID on Verizon as soon as this week, but it seems that the company changed its mind. A recent post on Motorola's forums says that the update won't be released this week, and that they have prematurely announced it.

However, the company has already posted a series of details regarding the update on its website, although it removed them soon after. It seems that they actually jumped the gun with the new Android 2.1 software update for the DROID, and that users will have to wait a little longer before it arrives. Unfortunately, no details on when the software solution will be released were posted, though we know, in a way, what it might include.

Android Central managed to take a look at the improvements Motorola said Android 2.1 would bring along (before the list was pulled down), and posted the following: - Voice recognition for virtual keyboard. Anywhere you can type, you can dictate. Swipe your finger across the keyboard (or press the microphone button) to activate. Same as on the Nexus One. - Virtual (on-screen) keyboard enhancements. - 3D Gallery: Should be the same as the new gallery that's on the Nexus One, and that's been ported to the Droid. - News and weather widget/app. That's the widget from the Nexus One that we get questions about in our videos. - Enhanced Music application. New tabs at the top for easier access an navigation to artists, songs, albums and playlists. - Google Goggles: Now built into Android 2.1. No separate downloads. - Yahoo e-mail now has setup optimization.

At the same time, the Android 2.1 update for Motorola DROID is also expected to bring all the previously noted Google Maps 4.0 improvements, along with the pinch to zoom functionality that was already available for the handset as soon as Google Maps 3.4 arrived on the Android Market. Moreover, the security lock bypass issue will also be fixed, and some improvements regarding the battery life of DROID are also expected.
