Leading provider of wireless broadband services Clearwire Corporation announced today the expansion of its 4G network in new markets around the United States. Among these markets, we can count Richmond, Virginia, the greater Salt Lake area, as well as St. Louis. According to the company, the CLEAR network is capable of offering speeds that are up to four times faster than those available via 3G networks, no matter whether the user is at home, in the office, or on the move.

“With CLEAR, our residents now have a blazing fast Internet connection that goes with them – to Busch Stadium or Gateway Arch,” said Jeannie Weaver, regional general manager for CLEAR. “And, we’re proud to offer affordable rate plans with no limits on the amount of data customers use. No caps on usage, no penalties or hidden fees – our customers use the Web as much as they want wherever they go – it’s that simple.”

CLEAR covers 450 square miles and more than 790,000 people along the Wasatch Front, the company announced. In the Salt Lake City area, the service is available in the I-15 corridor from 2100 North to Bangerter Highway in the south and from West Jordan to the East Bench. In St. Louis, CLEAR offers connectivity to over 1.2 million people, while covering more than 600 square miles. At the same time, the service delivers coverage for over 350 square miles and more than 530,000 people in the Richmond metro area.

The fresh 4G service from Clearwire is based on the WiMAX 4G one, which sports features similar to those of Wi-Fi, though not coming with the range limitations of the latter. Users choosing to connect via the 4G network should experience mobile download speeds that range between 3 and 6 mbps, and which can peak at 10 mbps. Users can enjoy the service with unlimited monthly plans that start at $40 per month and connect to Clearwire's network via modems, mobile devices, or 4G-embedded laptops or netbooks.

CLEAR comes with various opportunities for its users, the company announced: - A travelling business executive no longer needs to seek out Wi-Fi hotspots or be constrained by the speeds and limitations of 3G modem cards; - A college student can now have affordable Internet service whether at home, on campus or on-the-go; - A commuter can now work on large files or stream their favorite shows while riding the bus or train; - Families on summer road trips can now keep kids occupied studying or playing games in the back of the family minivan.
