Clearwire Corporation has decided to expand its sales operations for the CLEAR Internet mobile service in Central Pennsylvania, naming Curtis Heffelfinger the general manager for the Reading, York, Harrisburg and Lancaster areas. At the moment, CLEAR covers over 1,000 square miles in Philadelphia, allowing more than 3.6 million customers to have wireless Internet access at broadband speeds.

"We are excited about this day for two reasons: we believe that CLEAR is truly going to revolutionize the way folks in Central Pennsylvania access the Internet, and it’s personally gratifying to me given that Harrisburg is my hometown,” Curtis Heffelfinger, general manager for CLEAR, said. “Customers can eat lunch on City Island while conducting a WebEx meeting and baseball fans can stream radio while tailgating in the parking lot before a Revolution game in York. We’re providing an Internet experience that is unmatched and we can’t wait for people in Central Pennsylvania to enjoy it.”

Compared with Wi-Fi, which uses feet to determine the size of the service areas, the 4G WiMAX technology utilized by CLEAR employs miles as a measuring unit and is not dependent on the Internet hotspots, being able to provide download speeds of 3-6 mbps. Some of the numerous advantages offered by CLEAR include lower prices for students or retirees, higher download speeds without having to search for Internet hotspots or even full Internet connectivity for busy parents that want to see what their kids are doing.

Coming to the aid of its customers, CLEAR has put together a flexible and innovative pricing plan introducing a by-day or by-month payment plan on mobile and residential contracts. With Home Internet service plans starting at $30 per month and 4G Internet mobile at $40 per month, customers can also choose to combine the two for $55 per month. Customers located in Harrisburg, York, Reading or Lancaster can receive a 50% discount in the first two months by choosing the CLEAR online-only mobile Internet available for a limited period. This promotion is available for customers who purchase a $25 service card and sign a two-year service contract. Details can be found here.

Customers who spent most of their time on the go can now choose the CLEAR 4G+ dual mode 4G/3G service, which also includes Internet service outside CLEAR's service area for $55 per month. Day passes for occasional users can be purchased for $10 from one of CLEAR's retail stores located in Camp Hill and Lancaster.

Some of the broadband connectivity options offered by CLEAR include the Clear USB Modem and Clear 4G+Mobile, which requires a WiMAX-enabled USB modem available for $64.99 at Ubee or leased for $3.99 per month. The 4G+Mobile service, more adequate for people who travel across the country, requires a mobile USB, available for $5.99 per month. For the Residential Data & Voice Services, CLEAR provides a high-speed modem that can be placed anywhere in the house for a wireless connection and that can be purchased at Gemtek for $79.99 or leased for $4.99 per month. The Residential Voice Service is available in three forms, all with fixed monthly payments: Basic Home Clear Internet with Voice, Get Two, or Get Three. With the Clear Spot Service, virtually any 802.11b/g-compatible Wi-Fi device can establish a connection with CLEAR's mobile network. This portable Wi-Fi hotspot device can be purchased for $139.99.

In 2010, CLEAR plans to expand its 4G network in multiple markets across the United States including: Washington, New York, Pittsburg, Los Angeles, Boston, D.C., San Francisco, Miami, Denver, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Salt Lake City, St. Louis, and Kansas City.
