Recently, mobile phone carrier Vodafone UK has kicked-off pre-order availability for the latest smartphone from Research In motion, the BlackBerry Torch 9800. According to the wireless carrier, users interested in the new device should be able to get it for free on monthly plans that start at £40.

Moreover, the company announced that the pre-orders are expected to start shipping by September 27th.

The new BlackBerry Torch 9800 is the first RIM smartphone to boast a sliding form factor, while also being the first one to put together a touchscreen display with a QWERTY keyboard.

“If you're looking for the latest top-of-the-range BlackBerry - which has a touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keypad - get the BlackBerry Torch,” the wireless carrier notes on its website.

Some of the main features the device comes to the market with include:

- Touchscreen plus QWERTY keypad - so you can enjoy the best of both worlds - Customizable homescreen - the new BlackBerry 6 operating system lets you do more - 5 megapixel 'Zero shutter' camera - takes photos the second you push the button

The new mobile phone comes with a capacitive touchscreen, while offering fast typing capabilities on the portrait sliding QWERTY keyboard.

“The new BlackBerry Torch has a touchscreen that works just like the ones on other smartphones such as the HTC Desire and Samsung Galaxy S. […] And when you want to type a text or email quickly and easily simply slide out the familiar BlackBerry QWERTY keypad from behind the touchscreen,” Vodafone notes.

The specifications list of Torch includes a 3.2" screen, 5 megapixels photo snapper with flash, FM radio, MP3 player, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity options, 512MB of internal memory expandable via microSD memory card slot, or a battery that can offer up to 340 minutes of talk time. The handset comes with a series of social networking features too, including Facebook and others, as well as with appealing email and messaging capabilities.

“Just like with all BlackBerry smartphones, you can chat to your mates and your colleagues instantly using BlackBerry Messenger if they've got a BlackBerry smartphone. It's faster than sending a text - and the slide-out QWERTY keypad makes it easy too,” Vodafone notes.
